Filter “Kapi” Coffee Recipe
What is Filter Coffee?
Introducing the best South Indian breakfast beverage - The famous filter coffee! The South Indian filter coffee or “filter kaapi” as it is called in Tamil, is the perfect combination of bubbly and foaming milk, sugar, and a whole lot of love! The Filter Coffee is more of an emotion than just the perfect amalgamation of ingredients.
How Is South Indian Filter Coffee Made?
Well, you would think it is simple! Filter kapi is made with a filter coffee machine, right? Well, that’s right and wrong. The filer coffee machine is not a machine at all! it is a 3-piece wonder that makes the best filter coffee decoction if made correctly. The filter coffee filter, or the complete filter coffee set is easily available in any grocery store in South India. But if you are an expat living abroad, it will be slightly more difficult to find. You might find it in any Indian store or it can also be ordered online. Just the right amount of water and the right filter kapi powder goes into the filter coffee maker. It is traditionally served in a davara and tumbler. You have to drink namma filter coffee from a traditional davara tumbler to get the right feel! Like I said before, Filter kaapi is an emotion in a cup. Or should I say tumbler?
A Short Guide To Using The Filter Coffee Maker
As said before, the filter coffee maker is a 3-piece wonder. In essence, it is just a South Indian drip brew coffee maker. It usually comes in steel, but you can also find brass versions of the filter coffee filter. This Indian drip pot coffee maker consists of top and bottom compartments that fit perfectly one on top of the other. The top compartment comes with a lid and there is a tamp that is used to make sure the kapi powder remains leveled and does not scatter once it comes in contact with the hot water.
What Filter Coffee Powder Is Best For This Process?
When it comes to the proper way to make the best South Indian Coffee, the brand of coffee powder also matters. There are many filter coffee brands out there but my top preference is Bru filter coffee. My second choice would be a tie between Green Label Coffee and Narasus Filter Coffee. But of course, each person’s taste is different and you should try out various options before you find your perfect Filter kapi powder!
