Onion Tomato Chutney Recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 onions, roughly chopped

  • 4 ripe tomatoes, chopped

  • 4-5 dried red chilies

  • 1 tablespoon oil

  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds

  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

  • A pinch of asafoetida (hing)

  • 4-5 garlic cloves

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 teaspoon tamarind paste (optional)

  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

PREPARATION

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.

  2. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.

  3. Add cumin seeds, dried red chilies, and asafoetida. Saute for a few seconds.

  4. Add chopped onions and garlic cloves. Saute until the onions turn translucent.

  5. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.

  6. Allow the mixture to cool and then blend it into a smooth paste. You can add a little water if needed.

  7. Transfer the blended mixture back to the pan and cook for a few minutes. Add salt to taste.

  8. If using tamarind paste, add it at this stage for a tangy flavor.

  9. Once the chutney reaches your desired consistency, remove it from heat.

  10. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
